An Event Scam is when a fraudster (or the "phisher") pretends to be a trusted organization or person. They use contacting marks to request sensitive personal information, such as account numbers, user credentials or credit card details. The scammer will then use the information to steal money or commit identity fraud or credit card fraud, engage corporate espionage or other illicit activities. Most event scams are carried out via email.
