Taoism is formed in China as a religious system that emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao. It first arrives in Singapore when the first Chinese settlers set foot. Up to date, 10.9% of the entire population of Singapore are practising Taoism. There are currently about 500 Taoist temples and organizations affiliated with the Taoist Federation of Singapore. In Singapore, Taoism practice is being influenced by Buddhism. Example of this includes having both Monks and Taoist priest present during Taoist funeral services in Singapore. Due to this, most Taoist families are at loss on what to do during the funeral wake. A traditional Taoist funeral service includes an altar that is set up with a sacred lamp, symbolizing the elixir of immortality; two large candles; cups filled with tea, water and rice plus five plates of fruits representing the five elements. An incense burner that is placed in the centre completes the altar setup. In Singapore, funeral services last for 3, 5 or 7 days. Th
