The roles and functions of NGO in the Indian context?

Providing support to the Government: NGOs offer continuous support to various Government schemes and policies. For instance, the mid-day meal programme became a huge success in schools after the NGOs stepped in and delivered thousands of fresh, healthy and nutritious meals to children in Government and Government-aided schools. Contributions toward women empowerment: Many NGOs have worked for women?s rights and have fought against social menaces such as dowry, female foeticide and many more. They have urged people to make donations to education to improve women literacy rate and remove gender inequality.
