The Genesis of SMS, Bulk SMS and its contribution to Marketing

The Short Message Service (SMS) is a text messaging service using standardized communication protocols that enable mobile phones to communicate with each other via the exchange of short messages. This SMS concept was developed in 1984 by two french- german engineers and the main reason to go for SMS was not communication! The GSM was optimized for telephony but there were periods wherein the telephone traffic no signaling traffic existed. Thus the idea came about for SMS to use these intervals for a telephone-optimized system.
