The Evolution of German Watchmaking

Historians often trace the German watchmaking industry back to 1989, the year the Berlin Wall fell. But their story started much earlier. In 1918, the Germans established the Junghans watch company in the Black Forest. This was followed by the launch of the Bauhaus school in Weimar. In 1961, Max Bill designed the first elaborate Junghans timepiece: a model which boasted seamless form and functionality.
