The Construction Skills Certification Scheme was introduced in 1995 when the company was founded as a limited company. It provides smart cards to construction workers so that they can have proof of their training and qualification. In the middle of the 2000?s there were several deaths in the construction industry which led to the threat that government would take action on major contractors. The result of this was that many of those contractors moved to a policy which required everyone who worked on, or even visited, a construction site to have a CSCS card as evidence of their level of competence in health and safety. This is still a requirement to work on many sites today such as HS2 and Heathrow Airport, among others.
