Diabetes is a fairly widespread disease. According to data from the World Health Organization, it is estimated that more than 422 million adults suffer from diabetes. It is estimated that 8.5% of the total population worldwide suffers from diabetes, while in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region the percentage reaches 13.7%. In Cyprus, this percentage is estimated to reach 10.5%, i.e. approximately 111,000 people, of which approximately 1/3 of the people are unaware of it.
