A submersible pump is an electrical device that has a hermetically sealed electrical motor enclosed by a plastic cylinder, typically within a plastic tube called a pump body. The entire unit is then submerged in the liquid to be pumped. These units have been used for many years in applications other than the marine aquarium and their efficiency has been consistently good.
