Solvent is a compound that can dissolve other molecules, called solutes. Solvent can be solid, liquid or gas. In scientific terms, a solvent can pull apart the solute?s molecules, creating a homogenous mixture of solvent and solute. This mixture cannot be separated physically, but heat and other chemical processes can be applied to separate solute from the solvent.
