A good screening test should be inexpensive, easy to administer, not harmful, and reliable. Since 1979, several photographic techniques have been tried for the screening of amblyogenic factors. They work on the principle of the Bruckner test frequently used for amblyopia screening in developing countries. In recent times, photo screening has gained attention as a method for large-scale vision screening. However, its utility is limiting with the need for special equipment and recurring costs.
