Should I close inactive credit card accounts?

It is almost never a good idea to close an open credit card. There are exceptions though. Cards with very low credit limits like department store cards can usually safely be closed without harming someone�s FICO scores. Having to many open credit card accounts is never a problem if they are not carrying a balance.
