Clinical studies have shown that Selank and classic benzodiazepines such as diazepam and benazepam have a similar spectrum of physiological action. These data suggest that their mechanisms of action have a similar basis. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the effects of GA Selank expression of genes involved in neurotransmission. We analyzed 84 genes involved in neurotransmission (eg, major subunits of GABA receptors, transporters, ion channels, dopamine and serotonin receptors) in rat frontal cortex at 1 and 3 hours exit after GA BAminist or 300 ?g/kg) using real-time PCR. We found significant changes in the expression of 45 genes 1 hour after compound administration. Three hours after administering Selank or GABA, the expression of 22 genes changed. We found a positive correlation between changes in gene expression within 1 hour of Selank or GABA administration.
