RIP software or Raster image processor software is used to translate (rasterize) vector files such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PDF, JPG, etc to a raster image that is also called a bitmap. This bitmap is composed of a matrix of dots that the printer can recognise and print. The raster image is made of pixels similar to the ones on the computer screen. The function of the RIP software is to process multiple types of content for a particular environment and also communicate that processed data to the printer to get the final output.
