Vedaranyam is a historical town which is located in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu and it was known as Thirumaraikadu during the rule of Cholas and Pandyas and Vijayanagar Empire. This city is famous for its salt and struggle during the freedom struggle of India. Dandi March is the one of freedom struggle which is started by Gandhi, the ?Father of our Nation ?and it is started in Trichy and ended here. This march is known as the "Vedaranyam March" and the "Vedaranyam Satyagraha". July to September is the best time to visit this Town. There are some temples and historical places, Beaches are available here to visit and tasty food items are also available here at affordable prices. Vedaranyam is located 68 km away from Nagapattinam and 317 km from Chennai. There are no trains available to Vedaranyam only reach via road only. Some regular buses are available from the major cities of Tamil Nadu to Vedaranyam.
