Root canal treatment is a surgical procedure of eliminating infected or inflamed nerves or blood vessels from the root canal of the affected tooth. The therapy prevents reinfection of the tooth and saves the tooth from further decay. During the surgery, the infected pulp or nerve is extracted. The infected area is cleaned and disinfected. Lastly, the space or chamber is filled by a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and sealed with a crown. The three steps of saving the tooth requires two-three dental visits. Post- treatment dentists recommend medication and diet to avoid pain in the tooth.
