Abstract subjects tend to be naturally difficult therefore Math and Physics tend to be hated subjects. By abstract, we mean subjects or topics that are not immediately practical. In other words, these are subject matters and topics that students have a hard time applying in daily life or have difficulty appreciating precisely because they deem it remotely valuable in everyday life. An operative word here is ‘appreciation’. Most certainly, formal education or at least formal instruction, courses, subjects, concepts tend to be generally abstract. Formal schools are ‘academic’ precisely because they are that. They always tend to be isolated from real life. The main function of formal school then is not to always find immediate or concrete applications in common, daily or routine problems but rather the development of higher learning skills and competencies that would provide students the foundation for advanced and independent learning.
