Brian O'Hara, former Public Safety Director for the City of Newark, was recognised today by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey for his unwavering commitment to cooperative law enforcement in the state of New Jersey, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. O'Hara was appointed deputy mayor of Newark by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka on June 30, 2022. O'Hara was appointed public safety director by Baraka in February 2021, and he began his tenure in March 2021, overseeing over 1,960 employees, including 996 sworn police officers, 611 firefighters, and 346 civilian employees, and a budget that exceeded $200 million.
