Premenstrual Syndrome

Kauvery Hospital06 Nov, 2025Health

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common condition among women of reproductive age, referring to a combination of physical, emotional, and behavioural symptoms that occur in the days before the menstrual period, which usually improve once bleeding starts. The causes are linked to hormonal changes, such as fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone, chemical changes in the brain like a serotonin imbalance, and lifestyle factors including stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise. Common physical symptoms encompass bloating, breast tenderness, headache, fatigue, weight gain, and muscle or joint pain.
