Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or PIH is a condition where dark spots remain on the skin after an injury or inflammation has already healed. They can come from things as commonplace as acne breakouts or even mosquito bites. PIH is typically caused by the skin producing excess melanin after trauma.
