The formula for the polymer polyacrylamide (abbreviated as PAM) is (-CH2CHCONH2-). A succession of linear chains make up the structure. Polyacrylamide is a polyolefin. It's a polyethylene derivative with amide substituents on the carbon atoms on the opposite sides. Polyacrylamide is not a polyamide, unlike many nylons, because the amide groups are not present in the polymer backbone.
