The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012, is a comprehensive law enacted by the Government of India to provide for the protection of children from offenses of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography. It aims to safeguard the interests of vulnerable children in India. The Act defines different forms of sexual abuse, including penetrative and non-penetrative assault, as well as sexual harassment and pornography. It deems a person below the age of 18 as a child. The Act also casts duties on police officers and the authorities to report cases of child sexual abuse.
