When exposed to light, a positive resist becomes soluble in a photoresist developer. A positive photoresist is one in which the photoresist developer can dissolve the area of the photoresist that is exposed to light. The photoresist developer is unable to dissolve the unexposed region of the photoresist. Because the photoresist developer solvent does not infiltrate the portions that have not been exposed to UV light, positive photoresists can keep their size and pattern.
