Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to separate solids, ions, impurities, and larger particles from drinking water. In reverse osmosis, external pressure is applied to overcome osmotic pressure. The performance of the RO Membrane is affected by many different factors such as feed characteristics and operational parameters during its operation. Domestic RO membranes are typically capable of removing 90?99 percent of contaminants such as total dissolved solids (TDS) in the water supply. The domestic ro membranes are usually manufactured from a flat sheet of thin composites consisting of an active polyamide layer.
