If there is something popular in Indian cuisine from North to South, East to West, wheat and rice are our food grains. We love our "Indian Bread"-rotis and Parantha with all kinds of accompaniments made from wheat grains. A recent tax ruling, however, has created a disparity between the two. Paranthas (also called Parotas and Paronthas) and Rotis, under the Goods and Services Levy, are now subject to differential treatment. We discuss the consequences of this recent GST ruling in this paper.
