NFPA 17A establishes requirements for the design, installation, and maintenance of wet chemical fire extinguishing systems, which are typically found in commercial kitchens & industrial applications. These systems extinguish fires involving cooking oils, fats and grease by discharging a specially designed extinguishing agent that cools and prevents re-ignition at a rapid pace. NFPA 17A is responsible for testing system performance to make sure these systems are covering the intended areas and proper maintenance to improve fire safety and to save lives and property from fires originating from cooking and usage of flammable liquids.
