Omeprazole is acid reflux tablets used to manage excess stomach acid for conditions like non-cancerous stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), active duodenal ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. Omeprazole belongs to the class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors and inhibits the production of stomach acid. Omeprazole is a prescription-only proton pump inhibitor. PPIs stop the stomach pumps that produce too much acid. Proton pump inhibitors are taken up by the body and absorbed into the bloodstream. They then communicate with the cells that produce acid in the stomach lining. The cells are instructed by this to produce less acid.
