Ny?ya and Vaisesika: Two Ways of Classifying the World

From Vedic thought came the Ny?ya and Vaisesika ontologies, which are two different ways to classify things in the world. They are the basis for all of the Indic knowledge traditions. Starting with the sutras of Gotama and Kanada, these systems made logic and reasoning sounder and more systematic. They also had a big impact on the way logic and reason are used in Hindu knowledge systems. Later, the Navya-ny?ya system changed and eventually merged with the Vaisesika system.
