Ownership is obviously a difficult and complex issue; British PM David Cameron claimed that its 150-year history in the UK gave rightful ownership (and that if the Koh-i-Noor was returned, the British Museum would need to be emptied of all the other looted artifacts), while the government of Afghanistan points out it was taken illegally by an Indian Maharajah. Determining true ownership (whatever that might mean) will be the work of international justices, (although personally I would like to see an agreement by all parties to give up ownership and put it in the hands of, perhaps, the United Nations for permanent display somewhere [not in NYC please] as a symbol of international compromise).
