Myanmar Teak Trade: Dodgy and Conflict Wood

Since the military coup in Myanmar, the military regime controls the timber and teak trade. Western sanctions on timber trade have led to illegal timber trade in India. Forest Watch reports that Indian companies imported teak worth over USD 10 million between February 2021 and April 2022. India holds the distinction of being the biggest importer of teak globally, as well as the largest exporter of processed teak wood products.
