Pneumonia becomes more common during the monsoon primarily due to environmental factors that favor the spread of germs and weaken our defenses. The season's high humidity allows bacteria, viruses, and fungi to survive longer and multiply rapidly. Furthermore, sudden shifts between hot and cool weather can compromise the body's immune response. Compounding this, people tend to stay indoors with windows closed, leading to poor ventilation that traps airborne pathogens and facilitates the easy transmission of respiratory infections among household members.
