Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Drugs

Sharvaricmi08 Feb, 2022Health

Methicillin-resistant MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a type of Gram-positive bacteria that are genetically distinct from other Staphylococcus aureus strains. In humans, MRSA is responsible for a number of difficult-to-treat infections. In 2019, antimicrobial resistance was responsible for more than 100,000 deaths. MRSA is frequent in hospitals, jails, and nursing homes, where patients with open wounds, intrusive equipment like catheters, and weaker immune systems are more susceptible to healthcare-associated infections. MRSA began as a hospital-acquired infection, but it has already spread to the community and livestock. This is reflected in the names HA-MRSA (hospital-associated MRSA), CA-MRSA (community-associated MRSA), and LA-MRSA (livestock-associated MRSA).
