Medical device reprocessing is gaining in popularity as it allows for huge cost savings and reduces hospital waste. For example, Kaiser Permanente, a US-based integrated delivery network, saves an estimated $11 million annually by reprocessing medical devices. Treatment of medical waste puts a lot of pressure on hospitals; however, in countries such as the US, Japan, and China, it has become a full-fledged industry. For example, Ascent, a subsidiary of Stryker Corporation, disposed of 1,684 tons of medical waste with the help of reprocessing.
