In electrical circuits, a device with jaws which allow clamping round any electrical conductor, is used, which is called current probe. It measures the current in a conductor without having contact with it. It is used to see the magnitude of AC current. One of the type of current probe is current transformer type. There is a split ring, which is made of ferrite material, and a wire is wound round both the halves to form one winding of the current transformer. The conductor to which it is clamped forms the other winding.
