ou have no paper and pencil, but your mom is asking you to calculate the area of the room, and the length of each side is 35 feet. How would you calculate 35 squared by doing mental math? See pic on the left. Because the last digit is 5, then the last digits of the result should be 25. Then add 1 to the first digit(s), so 3 x 4 = 12. Now you know that the result is 1225. Try another one: 55 x 55. Check the answer on the right pic. Try 115 squared using the same steps. What is the result? ?
