According to studies, nearly two-thirds of eighth-graders scored at or below the basic competency level on the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). In addition, math competency was poor or nonexistent for almost 90% of kids with disabilities in eighth grade. For kids with difficulty with arithmetic or who have learning challenges, teachers must use effective teaching methods.
