Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs are carbon containing substances that vaporize at room temperature and enter the atmosphere. They are found in many building materials, paints, coatings, cleaning products, and adhesives. These chemicals get released into the air over time known as off-gassing, which we refer to as new paint smell. These chemicals let off gases that contribute to greenhouse effect and many health issues including breathing difficulties, headaches, fatigue, blurred vision, and dizziness. As a result, home owners prefer using low VOC paints with less than 50 gm/liter of volatile compounds.
