An Ordinance of the Government of Bihar, which was later passed by the legislature, formed Lalit Narayan Mithila University on August 5, 1972. The university is based in Darbhanga, a place in the centre of Mithila, a prehistoric cultural place in the North of India and a land of rich heritage and intellectual traditions.
