Centre Island is an incorporated village on Long Island, New York's Nassau County. It's located in Oyster Bay. The neighborhood has just 410 people, 168 homes, and 114 families, according to the 2010 census. Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor are seen from Centre Island, formed like a claw. The village's median family income was $146,250. The previous and combined name of Centre Island is Hog Island. In the late 1800s, the region was a popular summer resort. The Matinecock Indians, who arrived by canoe some 10,000 years ago to fish, hunt, and harvest shellfish, originally called Centre Island home. The island changed ownership several times throughout the years, and in 1844, it was given a new name: Centre Island. According to a New York study, in early 2007, there were no sex offenders living in this hamlet.
