Microplastics originate from a variety of sources, including cosmetic products, industrial processes, and the degradation of larger plastic items. Many personal care products, such as exfoliating scrubs and toothpaste, contain microbeads made of plastic that are washed down the drain and enter waterways. Additionally, the disintegration of plastic bags, bottles, and containers contributes to the growing concentration of microplastics in our oceans. These particles are incredibly durable.
