The Statutory Sick Pay in Ireland does give the employee the right to take sick leaves for up to 5 days a year. However, there has to be proper communication to inform and verify the illness. The acceptable communication comes in the form of a medical certificate, often referred to with informal terms like ?statutory sick day cert.? The medical certificate must be signed by a certified GP under the Irish Medical Council (IMC), validating that the employee is indeed ?unwell to work? during the period they were absent from work.
