These companies are primarily engaged in the manufacture, production, processing or preservation of products and commodities. In a nation like India, MSMEs play a critical role in the country's social growth and economic development. MSMEs in India are also making a major contribution to India's production, transport, employment and enterprise units. The MSME sector is also popularly known as the Small Scale Industry (SSI) in India.
