IEC Code Registration: Every company owner in India who imports or exports must have a unique 10-digit number known as an import export code. DGFT, Ministry of Commerce, issues the code, which does not need to be filed or renewed. Importers rely on IEC to handle all aspects of customs clearance and transportation, as well as to move funds to overseas accounts. To transfer and receive money from overseas banks, exporters need an International Export Certificate (IEC). In summary, the IEC is a requirement for all importers and exporters in India.
