More commonly known as high blood pressure, hypertension is a condition where the long-term force of blood pumping against your artery walls is high enough to eventually cause health problems, such as cardiovascular disease or heart disease. Your blood pressure is the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance from your arteries. Blood pressure increases as your heart tries pumping more blood through narrower arteries.
