Children are the most commonly affected by a head lice infestation, which is most typically the result of the lice being transferred directly from one person's hair to another. Poor personal cleanliness or an unhygienic living environment are not to blame for a head-lice infection. Neither bacteria nor viruses can be transmitted by head lice.
