Solar power harnesses the energy from the sun and converts it into usable electricity. Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic (PV) panels, are the key components of a solar power system. These panels are made up of multiple solar cells, usually composed of silicon. When sunlight hits these cells, it excites the electrons, creating a flow of electricity. When the solar panels generate more electricity than is consumed, the excess power is sent back to the grid, and the meter runs backward, effectively crediting the system owner.
