Adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) often start with lower interest rates compared to 30 year fixed rate mortgage loans. However, after the initial fixed period (usually 5, 7, or 10 years), the rates adjust periodically. While the lower introductory rates can seem attractive, ARMs can be risky.
