In the 1880s, however, James Bonsack devised a machine that pressed and rolled cigarettes much faster, and cigarettes were mass-produced and popular. All of this was well and dandy, but custom cigarette packaging and advertising didn't start until the early 1900s. Between the years 1920 and 1930 Custom cigarette packaging was bright and colorful, with exquisite artwork on each cigarette, and many were also available in collector's packs.
