Hiring International Talent: Is a UK Sponsor Licence or a Graduate Visa the Right Choice for Your Bu

Ayjsolicitors10 Sep, 2024Legal

Deciding between a UK Sponsor Licence and Graduate Visa route can be a difficult decision for businesses looking to tap international talent. Each option presents its own set of advantages; so which will be most suitable? The UK Sponsor Licence allows companies to hire skilled workers from overseas on a long-term basis, but does come with costs, compliance obligations and salary threshold of PS38,700 that make entry-level hires harder to come by. While it opens doors to talent globally, maintaining this licence may become time consuming with any misstep leading to suspension or revocation. At its core, Graduate Visas provide employers with an easier, cost-cutting solution: no sponsorship is needed and employers can hire international graduates for up to two years (three if PhD graduates). Unfortunately, it cannot be extended; hence businesses must either shift them onto sponsored roles later or let them go.
