Hemophilia is an inherited hematological condition in which factor IX, a vital protein that plays a key role in the blood clotting process, is deficient in the patients. This results in, in general, an inability to carry out blood clotting at the same rate as healthy individuals. Hemophilia patients, known as hemophiliacs, bleed excessively from even small cuts, as the clotting factor is deficient and thus blood flow is not stopped in even small cases.
