The short and simple answer is, ?No.? A European study recently concluded that we actually lose less hair in the winter than we do in warm weather. Some professionals believe that it is because our bodies are going back to the days when humans were more reliant on hair for warmth. Going along with this, we do know that Melatonin, that wonderful hormone secreted by the brain, is responsible for making us sleepy during the short, dark days of winter and also regulates hair growth cycles, spurring more growth in the winter months. However, there are some aspects of the cold weather which can have negative effects on hair, and lead to patchy hair loss. At the top of the list is dry scalps which are caused by central heating as well as cold weather. It can lead to brittle, fragile hair.
